CONCERT BAND
Concert Band / Proficiency-Skills Requirements / Audition Info.
To Maintain your position in this ensemble, the following skills are required:

Must be able to play all following scales by memory / m.m. 132=1/4 note / Straight 8th AND in 3rds / articulations: tongued, slurred, t-2, slur 2 / slur 2, t-2
Major Scales AND the Relative or "Natural Minor" from each of these following keys:
Concert Keys: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db
- Melodic AND Harmonic Minor for F, Bb, Eb
- Chromatic scale 2 octaves (minimum) in 8th notes / 1/4 note=m.m. 132
- Intonation, Articulation, Dynamics, Phrasing, Nuance and all other fundamental components of the langue of music are studied in depth during class.
- One Master Tuning Tendency per grading period due by end of second week of grading period. Turn in copy to Director. (Take one hour to complete) Full chromatic range.
All instruments must use proper chromatic fingerings (See Director for fingering chart)

Snare drum / Percussion
- Must have a clear understanding of rolls, and ability to perform them up to a 13 stroke roll.
- Show basic level proficiency in tuning and playing timpani.
All Percussionists Must Purchase the Alfreds Drum Method Book I
- Must be able to sight-read any combination of eighth note rhythm successfully, including dotted quarters and ties at a moderate tempo. Also, dotted 8th - 16th rhythms, syncopation, sixteenths, triplets, and any of their variations.
**Sight reading piece is chosen by the Director.
***For any audition or played test for the Director, you must perform a brief prepared piece of solo literature, in classical/concert style, written or memorized. (Can be taken from a duet, solo, chamber, or an excerpt from large ensemble music. See Director for clarification.)
